Job Title: Data Engineer (Contract)Contract Length: 6 monthsLocation: Fully Remote (within Spain only)Eligibility: Must be an EU Citizen and have an active Limited companyRole Overview:My client is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to support key data initiatives on an initial 6-month contract . The role will focus on designing, building, and maintaining reliable, scalable data pipelines and ensuring high standards of data quality, governance, and interoperability.You will work in a modern, cloud-based environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust data solutions that support critical business and scientific use cases. This role is fully remote, provided you are based in Spain.Data EngineeringDesign, develop, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines using PythonWork extensively with JSON and JSON Schema to ensure structured, consistent dataImplement and maintain data validation frameworks to enforce data quality standardsOrchestrate and manage workflows using Apache Airflow, Prefect, or similar toolsManage schema registries , including schema versioning and controlled evolutionAlign datasets with controlled vocabularies and ontologies to ensure semantic consistencyUtilize cloud-based data services for scalable data processing and storageImplement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for data engineering workflowsDevelop and support automated testing and monitoring to ensure data reliability and performanceCollaborate with stakeholders to define data requirements and governance standardsRequired Skills & ExperienceStrong experience in Data Engineering , particularly Python-based ETL developmentSolid understanding of JSON, JSON Schema, and data modeling principlesHands-on experience with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, or equivalent)Experience implementing data validation, testing, and monitoring frameworksFamiliarity with schema registry tools and schema versioning practicesExperience working with cloud data platforms and servicesStrong understanding of CI/CD principles applied to data pipelinesAbility to work independently in a fully remote environmentEU citizenship and current residence in Spain (mandatory)Nice to HaveExperience with controlled vocabularies, ontology alignment, or semantic data modelingExposure to metadata management platforms or data catalogsPrevious experience in life sciences, healthcare, or other regulated industries
