Offer Description
Stainless steel production is a highly resource-, energy-, and labour-intensive industry generating significant amount of post-production scrap and faces increasing pressure to align with global decarbonization objectives. In this context, the development of eco-friendly technologies for recycling stainless steel is essential to reduce primary raw material consumption, energy demand, and associated greenhouse-gas emissions, thereby strengthening the circular economy. Emerging manufacturing and processing routes enable more efficient use of recycled stainless‑steel feedstock, supported by increased digitalization and improved process control. For the widespread adoption of recycled and circular stainless steels, these materials must demonstrate mechanical performance and application‑relevant properties comparable to those of conventionally produced steels. This project therefore focuses on the development of novel physical simulation tools for optimizing the manufacturing process and comprehensive multiscale microstructural and mechanical characterization of recycled stainless steels to enable their further commercialization in various engineering sectors.
Candidates should hold BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science or related disciplines with excellent academic credentials and a solid commitment to developing an academic career in an international and multidisciplinary environment.
