Embedded Firmware Engineer – Autopilot Systems Remote (Europe) | 1 week/month onsite in Estonia | Up to £100,000 This is not just another embedded role. It’s for engineers who already spend their evenings tweaking flight controllers, tuning drones, or contributing to autopilot stacks - and want to turn that into their day job. You’ll be joining a small, fast-growing team building software that runs directly on autonomous drone platforms as part of a major European defence programme. The focus is firmware and autopilot systems - the layer that actually controls flight, stability and behaviour in real-world environments. You’ll be working close to the hardware, developing and optimising embedded Linux and firmware-level code that sits inside constrained systems. Think tight CPU limits, real-time feedback loops, controllers and flight dynamics - not high-level application work. This is a role where your work directly affects how an aircraft behaves in the air. You’ll be: Developing firmware and software for autopilot and flight control systems Working on embedded Linux environments under real constraints Optimising performance across memory, bandwidth and real-time execution Contributing to control loops, feedback systems and flight behaviour Supporting integration, testing and real-world deployment You’ll likely bring: Strong experience with embedded C++ (or Rust) Hands-on experience with autopilot systems (ArduPilot, PX4, Betaflight or similar) A solid understanding of control systems, flight dynamics or real-time systems Experience working across embedded Linux and firmware layers But more important than anything else - you care about drones.
