ph3Job Summary /h3 pThe bEmergency Vehicle Mechanic /b performs repairs and maintains a variety of heavy equipment including, but not limited to, heavy trucks, trailers, cranes, forklifts, container handlers, back‑hoes, trenchers, loaders, graders, scrapers, compactors, dozers, skid steers, and associated equipment. /p h3Principal Accountabilities /h3 ul liResponsible for all maintenance, repair, and servicing of assigned fire vehicles and equipment to include structural Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) and ambulance apparatus /li liPerform heavy equipment maintenance activities including installation, repair, trouble‑shooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance /li liRemove and replace engines and mechanical units to inspect and diagnose parts using computerized test equipment, calibration devices, gauges, etc. /li liRepair and overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment /li liRepair air conditioning systems /li liCalibrate load monitoring indicators to ensure safe and reliable lifts /li liRebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drive units, suspensions, springs, bushings, and kingpins /li liReplace seals and bearings, axle brakes, and crane rigging /li liProvide input and data for processing work orders, invoices, equipment repair records, and activity reports /li liAdhere to all established safety policies and standards to include identification, use, and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous waste /li liPerform recovery operations as needed /li liAct as point‑of‑contact for maintenance issues in absence of Maintenance Supervisor or Foreman /li liPerform other duties as assigned /li /ul h3Knowledge Skills /h3 ul liAbility to repair, rebuild, maintain, and overhaul engines, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic assemblies used in the Fire Department /li liAbility to diagnose electrical or mechanical malfunctions by utilizing electronic test equipment /li liSpecialized knowledge and skills in diesel and heavy automotive repair and maintenance /li liPractical understanding of theory of hydraulics (Pascal Theory), pulley, and gear ratios /li liAbility to read and understand schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings /li liKnowledge of diagnostics and ability to conduct technical research on the computer /li liPrefer knowledge of US military heavy vehicles and equipment, Material Handling Equipment (MHE), OSHA, American National Standards Institute (ANSI), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), military regulations standards, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements /li /ul h3Experience Education /h3 ul liMinimum two (2) years of heavy vehicle maintenance experience in emergency vehicles or civilian heavy equipment/military/tactical environment /li liMust be experienced in the repair of major systems /li liHigh school diploma or equivalent /li liValid driver’s license /li liPrefer EVT Level 1 Certification in Fire Apparatus, Ambulance, and/or ARFF Technician Certification Tracks /li /ul h3Physical Requirements/Working Environment /h3 ul liAbility to stand, sit, walk, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, push, and pull /li liAbility to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds /li liAssist in lifting up to one hundred (100) pounds /li liAble to work in both inside and outside conditions and be exposed to dust, fumes, and gases from running engines and motors /li liLiving and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable /li liLong hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions /li liOVS personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions /li /ul /p #J-18808-Ljbffr
