Overview

In the Aerospace, Defence & Security division, we develop safer and more reliable defense systems through technology including unmanned aerial systems (UAVs), sensing systems, command and control software, and aiming systems.
The Embedded Systems Engineer will test, verify, and manage the quality and safety of the developed embedded software and hardware solutions for autopilot systems, airborne electronics, and ground support systems used in UAV development. The role focuses on enhancing the quality and reliability of the UAV control, navigation, and communication capabilities while ensuring system reliability and efficiency.
This position requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to develop and test real‑time systems that meet operational and performance requirements for UAV applications.
The position is located at our Headquarters in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid).
Responsibilities

Design, develop, and execute firmware tests to ensure product quality and functionality for UAV autopilot, airborne, and ground systems.
Perform verification and validation (V&V) of firmware systems and components.
Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate the software integration and delivery process.
Develop and execute unit tests to validate code functionality.
Collaborate with development teams to identify and resolve firmware issues.
Document test results and provide detailed reports.
Work closely with hardware, software, and aerospace engineers to ensure smooth integration and system performance.
Support field operations flight tests and troubleshoot airborne and ground systems.
Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded software and hardware solutions for autopilot systems, airborne electronics, and ground support systems used in UAV development.
Enhance UAV control, navigation, and communication capabilities while ensuring system reliability and efficiency.
Develop and maintain firmware tools to support testing and verification during production.

Qualifications
Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.

Additional Training / Qualifications

Previous experience in firmware testing and embedded software development.
Knowledge of verification and validation (V&V) methodologies.
Knowledge of testing tools such as Vector Cast, cppCheck, SonarQube.
Experience in implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
Ability to develop and execute unit tests.
Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, and Python.
Strong knowledge of microcontroller platforms (e.g., ARM Cortex‑M, STM32) and low‑level programming.
Familiarity with Embedded Linux operating systems.
Ability to use tools for debugging and validation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, emulators, etc.).
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
Knowledge in version control tools (e.g., Git) and familiarity with CI/CD workflows.

Specific Knowledge

Knowledge of UAV autopilot systems and frameworks (e.g., PX4, ArduPilot) and ground control stations (e.g., QGroundControl, Mission Planner) is recommended.
Knowledge and experience with ARP4754A, MIL‑STD‑882, DO‑178, and AOP‑52 is recommended.

Minimum Required Experience

2-5 years of experience in embedded systems development with a focus on UAV systems or aerospace applications.
Experience in real‑time embedded software and hardware integration.
Control systems design and sensor integration.
Experience with flight control systems, UAV development platforms, or autonomous systems is highly desirable.
Previous involvement in UAV testing and field operations is a plus.
