Overview The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry. What we are looking for ISGlobal is seeking a postdoctoral researcher who is interested in providing support in performic bioinformatic analyses, interpreting the resulting data and writing manuscripts related to the projects FIS 2020 “Genomic characterization of vulvar squamous cell carcinomas and its precursor lesions” and FIS 2023 “Gene expression profiles of the three subtypes of vulvar cancer”. The overall goal of these projects is to explore the genomic and transcriptomic background of this type of cancer, which remains poorly characterized at the molecular (genomic and transcriptomic) level. The team is composed of two pathologists (both with shared dedication between hospital duties and research), one full-time post-doctoral researcher, three full-time PhD students in their first year, one part-time PhD student, and one program manager, based at ISGlobal, providing administrative support. Key responsibilities Provide support in molecular data analysis, using a variety of bioinformatic tools, and interpretation of results; design and writing of manuscripts and grants. Analyze and interpret data and write resulting manuscripts, in collaboration with other team members. Contribute to supervision of junior team members and participate in scientific discussions related to the projects. Demonstrate strong motivation and passion in exploring the main fields of the research. Specific duties Conduct bioinformatic and statistical analysis and drafting original articles for publication in high-quality journals. Contribute to scientific report preparation and grant preparations. Collaborate with study teams and external specialists. Participate in preparation of grants. Skills Excellent communication skills within a multi-location team (Pathology Department of Hospital Clinic and ISGlobal). Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated track record of achievement and problem resolution. Strong learning capacity and enthusiasm for research. Training and experience / qualifications PhD in Translational Medicine, Biology, Biomedicine or related discipline (Desirable, but not essential). Masters in Bioinformatics or related training. Experience in designing and writing high-quality scientific papers. Specific requirements Advanced skills in R software and statistics; capacity to manage and integrate complex data using appropriate packages (essential). Capacity to filter, integrate and analyze large and complex datasets of genomic, transcriptomic and clinical data and to interpret integrated results (essential). Previous research expertise in analyzing exome sequencing and gene expression data (essential). High level of enthusiasm and motivation; passion for research (essential). Language level Proficiency in English. Conditions Duration: 6 months initial contract, with possibility to continue with indefinite-term contract thereafter.
